A small group of children, age 7-14, who help Little Lantern grow through ideas, imagination, kindness and honest feedback.

Meet the roles

• Chief Spark Finder - Finds bright ideas hiding in everyday life - Suggests new story, song, game, journal or card ideas.

• Story Lantern Keeper - Helps protect the magic of stories - Helps protect the magic of stories.

• Kindness Captain - Helps check that ideas feel kind and welcoming - Notices whether ideas include others and do not make anyone feel left out.

• Giggle & Game Tester - Tests whether activities are fun, clear and playable - Tries games, cards, challenges and activities, then says what works.

• Rainbow Belonging Scout - Looks for ways every child can feel included - Checks that different families, feelings, cultures and children feel welcome.

• Design Dazzle Helper - Helps choose colours, icons, covers and visual details - Gives feedback on pictures, badges, covers, cards and layouts.

• Gentle Voice Guardian - Helps make the words sound child-friendly- Says when wording feels too grown-up, too bossy, too confusing or too serious

Important adult safeguard

The children can advise, imagine, test and suggest. They should not be asked to judge other children, police behaviour, handle conflict, manage disclosures, decide what is “safe” alone, or take responsibility for safeguarding. The adult keeps final responsibility.

WHY LITTLE LANTERN EXISTS

Many children grow up in families that do not always look like the families shown in books, songs, classrooms or playground conversations.

Some children have two mothers.

Some have two fathers.

Some live between two homes.

Some were born through surrogacy or donor conception.

Some were adopted or fostered.

Some live with grandparents.

Some have one parent.

Some have step-parents, half-siblings or chosen family.

Some have a family story that is private, complex or still finding its words.

Little Lantern Family Club was created for those children — and for every adult who wants to support them with care.

Not to make children perform their difference.

Not to make family diversity feel like a lesson.

Not to turn any child into an example.

But to create a warmer world around them.

A world where different families appear naturally.

A world where kindness is practised.

A world where privacy is respected.

A world where children can belong without having to defend themselves.
